30 Seconds to Say Everything
Company
Alight
Alight is a global benefits technology company serving millions of employees across hundreds of enterprise clients.
The Challenge
Alight was at an inflection point. Leadership had made client retention the company's north star, and the business needed a win that would resonate with the people who mattered most: our clients, investors, and employees. Something that reminded them why Alight was worth believing in.
Our Sr. Digital Director had invested in a streaming spot the year prior and the slot was ours to fill. He came to me and asked if we could pull it off in two weeks with zero additional spend.
I said hell yes.

When your audience already knows who you are, the job isn't to introduce yourself. It's to make them feel something. We wanted a spot so well crafted that a client would walk up to our CEO and say "I saw your commercial. That was inspiring."
Writing a 30-second script for streaming is a specific skill. Every word has to earn its place, the pacing has to feel effortless, and the emotional payoff has to land in under half a minute.
The bar was set. -
We pulled in our Sr. Revenue and Growth Marketer to align on the emotional territory we wanted to own, and once we had a shared sense of direction, I built the entire creative myself.
The constraints were real. We had purchased the commercial spot with the prior year's budget and had nothing left to put toward talent or production. We didn't even have a copywriter on staff. I was in the middle of hiring one. So I became the writer. I wrote the script, developed the storyboard, recorded the scratch voiceover, selected the music, and coached the hired VO talent on cadence and tone (in a single evening). After getting the sign off from my project peers, I handed technical production to my motion graphics designer and art directed through to completion.
The result was a TV-worthy 30-second spot built for streaming platforms, produced by my team alone, with zero additional budget.

What This Work Proved
The spot was completed and delivered before my departure from Alight. Whether it airs or not, what this project demonstrated is more important than any media placement: that great creative doesn't require a big budget or a full team. It requires someone who knows how to lead, write, and make smart decisions under pressure. In two weeks, with nothing extra to spend, we made something TV-worthy.
